'The venerable author, who in his 'Dithyramb, Tragedy, and Comedy' (1927) has given such a complete presentation of the origins and beginnings of early Greek drama, has here followed up with an excellent survey of the history of the theater of Dionysos Eleutherios in Athens, from the earliest tot the Roman periods. He discusses the theater before Lycurgus in Chapters I-III, the Lycurgan Theater in Ch. IV, the Hellenistic in Ch. V and the Theater in the Roman Period in Ch. VI. Ten appendices to Chapters IV and V contain much valuable information on details. An excellent Summary in Ch. VII clearly states the results of the investigations. (?)
