It provides a systematic, line-by-line collection of phraseological parallels to Apollonius from Homer, Hesiod, the Hymns, epic fragments down to Panyassis, and Stesichorus, and allows a clearer view than ever before of the extent to which Ap. is indebted to that department of earlier poetry, and the kind of use he made of it. The material ranges from passages which Ap. must have been consciously imitating to minor collocations (...). The value of such a compilation to commentators and textual critics is obvious.
