Antiquarische Engelse familiebijbel uit het begin van de 19e eeuw; het Oude en Nieuwe Testament plus "the Books called Apocrypha" (de apocriefen). Met inhoudsopgave en tabellen voor maten, gewichten, geld en tijd (maanden en dagen van de week). Tekst (in het Engels) in twee kolommen gedrukt.
¶ Gebonden in contemporaine zwart leren boekband met vergulde decoratie op platten en rug (dus geen belettering) en goud op snee. De bladzijden zijn ongenummerd, het commentaar in kleine letters steeds onderaan de pagina. De Apocriefe Boeken bevatten o.a. Tobit, Judith, Esther en Wisdom. Geïllustreerd met frontispice (staalgravure van Abraham die Isaäk offert door C. Armstrong naar werk van J. Thorston) en gegraveerde titel ("The Spirit of God moved upon the Face of the Waters"). Verder geen prenten. Toch denken we dat de bijbel zo compleet is. We weten dat er in 1802 een eerste druk verscheen met in ieder geval vijf prenten. Deze editie uit 1809 komen we in WorldCat echter alleen tegen (6x) zonder illustraties of alleen met frontispice en titelplaat. |
