| Meer info | Though two separate systems of Hindu philosophy, the Vaisesika and Nyaya systems became closely associated over time, so much so that later writers started dealing with them as if they were one system. Of special importance is Visvanatha (A.D. 1650) the author of Bhasa Parricceda along with his commentary, Siddhanta-Muktavali. The book presented here is an important manual on the Nyaya-Vaisesika philosophy and is extensively read throughout India by all those who want to get a fair knowledge of the subject within a short compass. Though the author intended the book for beginners, it remains a difficult book, primarily due to its extreme terseness. Fortunately Swami Madhavananda, the ninth President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, has translated the book into English, making the text much more accessible to English readers. The text has been punctuated and copious notes have been added by Swami Madhavananda to elucidate difficult passages. But, as the Swami says, "Students of Nyaya should always remember that, no matter how good a translation is, they must be ready to do hard thinking for a proper understanding of the subject." |
