Meer info | 432 pages. Very good conditions. Almost like new. Donald A. Gazzaniga is a former writer for television. He is the author of A Few Good Men, the story of When Don Gazzaniga was told his heart was in such bad shape that he would need a transplant to survive, he asked if there was anything he could do to help his chances of survival. His doctor, Dr. Michael Fowler, director of the Heart Failure Program at the Stanford University Medical Center, suggested lowering his sodium intake to 2000 mg a day. (The average American takes in 3000 mg per day.) Gazzaniga asked if 500 mg a day would be better. Dr. Fowler agreed that it would be but that it would be extremely difficult to attain. Gazzaniga's wife, Maureen, said, "If he says he can do it, he will do it." That was in January, 1997 and, indeed, Gazzaniga did what he set out to do. He not only lowered his salt intake to the targeted 500 mg a day, he reversed his heart problem to the point where he got off the transplant list and shared his formula for reducing salt intake by way of five cookbooks replete with no salt recipes, from his first book, "The No Salt Lowest Sodium Cookbook" to his most recent, "Living Well Without Salt." A sixth book is in the works. |
