| Meer info | Mariage Blanc is a tragic farce set in a middle class household in Poland of the late nineteenth century and concerns itself with respectable attitudes towards love and sex in the society of that period. The Hunger Artist Departs takes its origin and inspiration from a short story by Kafka in which a showman travels from town to town with his inpressarion , starving himself for long periods of time for people's amusement. A soldier in the underground Home Army during the Nazi occupation, Rozewicz began to publish immediately after 1945. His first volumes of poetry, Anxiety (1947) and The Red Glove (1948), made wide use of war material and deliberately sought to destroy literary conventions. In focusing on human beings as essentially alone in the universe, the poet approached the conception of the French existentialists. After 1956 Rozewicz turned his attention to the stage, writing plays that basically belong to the Theater of the Absurd. He has also published several collections of short stories and a novel. |
