| Meer info | Carl P Thunberg is a Swedish naturalist (1743-1828). He's been dubbed the "Japanese Linné." The author spent 15 months in Japan as a surgeon of the Dutch Company established in Deshima and Nagasaki. His description of commercial, political, religious, and linguistic life of Japan is one of the first and most important. Many valuable anecdotes, such as paper making, card games, make-up, education, hygiene, prostitutes, etc. The first part of the trip is the description of South Africa, of Batavia and the island of Java. Large Japanese glossary at the end. Nice contemporary state (the normal fragile state of such a binding), some foxing in places, an interesting ticket is attached on the inner side of the front cover "Cabinet de Lecture de G.
