This directory, published jointly by the IUCN/SSC (The World Conservation Union's Species Survival Commission) Medicinal Plant Specialist Group and the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (Bundesamt für Naturschutz), is intended to assist in the flow of information between policy makers, scientists and technical experts in the management of medicinal plant resources. In the section entitled 'Directory of medicinal plant groups', entries are provided on international organizations, organizations with activities on more than one continent, and organizations in Africa, America, Asia, Australia and the Pacific Islands, and Europe. The status, objectives, activities, geographic interest, databases, information/resources, funding, contact person, and full address (including telephone, fax and e-mail details) are listed for each organization. The second part of this publication concerns information sources and has chapters on key journals, databases, a note on a directory of specialists [see Craker, L. E., International Directory of Specialists in Herbs, Spices and Medicinal Plants. Amherst, Massachusetts, USA; University of Massachusetts (1994), 101 pp.], and awards. There is an index to the different groups included in the publication and a country index.
