| Meer info | Mary du Caurroy, Duchess of Bedford, wife of the 11th Duke took her first flight in 1926 at the ripe old age of 61. The following year both Mary and her trusted pilot, Charles Barnard, set off in her Cirrus Moth biplane around Britain and abroad. Her Moths took her around Europe, to Jerusalem and Petra, The Gambia and the Canaries, and finally across the Sahara until,in 1937 she took off on a solo flight and was never seen again. Mary du Caurroy, hertogin van Bedford, echtgenote van de 11e hertog, maakte haar eerste vlucht in 1926 op de rijpe leeftijd van 61 jaar. Het jaar daarop vertrokken zowel Mary als haar vertrouwde piloot, Charles Barnard, in haar Cirrus Moth-tweedekker door Groot-Brittannië en in het buitenland. Haar Moths namen haar mee door Europa, naar Jeruzalem en Petra, Gambia en de Canarische Eilanden, en uiteindelijk over de Sahara, totdat ze in 1937 op een solovlucht vertrok en nooit meer werd gezien. |
