Meer info | In January 1898 the Belgica with Amundsen on board arrived at the coast of Grahamland. After mapping and naming of some islands, the expedition crossed the Antarctic Circle on February 15, 1898. On 28 February 1898 the ship was caught in the ice, the crew members realized that they should spend the winter on Antarctica. Finally almost a year later, on February 15, 1899, they were able to enter the ship into a small channel that they had dug the weeks before. It took nearly a month to cover about eleven kilometers. On 14 March they left the ice behind and on 5 November the ship returned to Antwerp. |
