- This Latin work is a biographical and hagiographical commentary on Blessed Ippoliti Galantini (1565-1619), written shortly after his beatification in 1825 by Pope Leo XII. The book recounts Galantinis life, virtues, missionary zeal, and the founding of the Congregation of Christian Doctrine in Florence, a lay movement dedicated to religious education and catechism of the poor and children. Marsella presents Galantini as a model of piety, humility, and perseverance, especially in the face of false accusations of heresy and other trials. Despite opposition from both clergy and society, Galantini was ultimately vindicated and praised for his orthodoxy and moral integrity. His beatification in 1825 occurred during a period of religious revival under Pope Leo XII, who sought to reaffirm traditional Catholic values after the upheavals of the Napoleonic era and Enlightenment rationalism. The publication of Marsellas Commentarius fits into this broader movement of restoring and celebrating Counter-Reformation figures as exemplars of faith and orthodoxy.
