This volume presents the political history of Palestine, from B.C. 175 to A.D. 135, i.e. the 'First Division' of the original work, in the authorized English translation. Not included in the present version is hte excursus on the 'Valuation Census of Quirinius' and the two sketches of the history of Syria; the latter have been replaced by a concise chronological summary. In place of the bibliographical lists of the original text, this new version includes a chronological guide to the perios dand genealogies of the Asmoneans and of the House of Herod, originally printed as appendices VII and VIII.
