'This interesting little book may be read both as a single unified work and as a sequence of five independent studies on different forms of death in the 'Aeneid'. Firmly located in the field of cultural poetics, R. examines the intereaction between the dramatisation of death in an epic narrative and a set of key socio-political values and ideas directing towards the major cultural theme of Augustus' idealised 'restituted republic'.
