'At the end of this book is a full list cataloguing representations of buildings on coins of the ancient world, omitting only the city of Rome 'because listst of building types can be easily found in such works as Roman Imperial Coinage and Coins of the Roman Empire'. The text is essentially a discussion of the more important examples. it is lavishly illustrated, with good colour plates and adequate half-tones. (...) the coins illustrate a wide range of buildings, though naturally the principal public buildings, especially temples, predominate. For many buildings they afford the only evidence that has survived. The authors emphasize this, and explain carefully the conventions inevitably used by the engravers in producing their representations of buildings in such small dimensions. They insist on the importance of this evidence for the architectural historian, and, indeed, the architectural historian will welcome the scholarly presentation of the material. Yet he most remain doubtful of the real value of the evidence. (...) Where nothing else is available, then the evidence of these coins has to be used. For other buildings there is a risk of confusion.' (R.A. TOMLINSON in The Journal of Hellenic Studies, 1980, pp.275-76).
