First Dutch translation of the "Voyage en Orient" de Alphonse de Lamartine which appeared in the same year as the French first edition. Lamartine (1790-1869) made this journey with his family from July 1832 til September 1833. This travel account, which is specially interesting for the descriptions of the landscape, stands in the tradition of the great travels to the Levant in the beginning of the 19th century, like Chateaubriand and Nerval wrote. It is written like a diary, special geographical places or curious encounters with local people are highlighted in separate chapters.
