They were the result of a lifetime's study being supplemented by many hours spent at stations and locomotive running sheds. This volume is the follow-up book to \"Locomotives I Have Known\", this second collection being published posthumously, and contains a short memoir of the author by Joseph Martin and an appreciation by Noel Maskelyne, the late author's brother.
