My pants were thirty-eight inches around the waist, and I was at least fifty pounds overweight. In my mind I looked like I had in high school: a thin basketball player. My company had built applications that rely on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data, so I felt qualified to find the signal in the noise of the fitness industry. It was time to use my skills to improve my health. I was going to crack The Naked Code.\nMy goal was to discover the fitness axioms that accurately predicted body composition. To put it another way, I wanted to know the necessary and sufficient conditions for building muscle and losing fat. What absolutely must be present, and what is superfluous? This became the all-important question, and this mindset served as a forcing function. Whenever I considered labeling something as a non-negotiable law, I would ask the question, “Can I lose fat and gain muscle without this?” If the answer was yes, then I moved on. After obsessive study, constant self-experimentation, large doses of ignoring the experts, and being willing to challenge the myriad of assumptions in the fitness industry, I finally found a simple code that makes humans look and feel awesome.
