This is a personal account of the Dutch resistance to Nazism during World War II. Unlike resistors in other nations, where the emphasis was more often on military espionage and sabotage, for the Dutch, the struggle was almost exclusively civilian. It was left to small groups to carry out the fight and one such group of friends included the 19 year old Herman Friedhoff. Calling themselves the \"Apostles\" and taking up biblical codenames, they dedicated themselves to gathering information on all aspects of life in occupied Holland which they passed on to the exiled government so that preparation for their return might proceed in an informed manner.;Woven into Herman's own account of the Apostles and his lover Amanda, is the story of Alexander. A handsome young officer, Alexander threw himself into the fight for Holland's liberation and lived to tell the tale to Herman Friedhoff some 40 years later.
