= Rare study presenting an analysis of the festival organised every twenty-five years at the Kalakam of Ramavilliam, Trikkarippur. This Kalakam is an old socio-religious organsiation of Tiya community in North Malabar. A large number of Teyyam deities are propitiated during the festival. A study of these folk gods and goddesses highlights the existence of two different cultural currents of primitivism and sophisticated religion. A case study of the fetsival and the organisation of the Kalakam provides a good example of the process of Aryanisation in the Dravidian land of Kerala.
