At the beginning of 1996, for the second time since 1992, the Sexten Cultural Association awarded its 1995 Architecture Prize for new architecture in the Alps. 88 projects were submitted; the jury viewed 21 buildings on-site and singled out eleven projects for awards. The first prize ex aequo went to the architects Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer for their Kirchner Museum in Davos and to Peter Markl for the La Congiunta Museum (for the display of works by Hans Josephson) in Tessin. The eleven prize-winning entries are documented in an exhibition and this beautiful publication by plans, photos, and sketches and explained with detailed texts by members of the jury. The catalogue does not simply record nine outstanding projects of contemporary architecture; it represents the continuation of research into the specific topic of \"Architecture in the Alps.\" Bruno Reichlin adds to the discussion with his text \"Modernist Architecture in the Mountains,\" in which he analyses the various positions of architects of the 1930s such as Franz Baumann, Hans Leuzinger, Lois Welzenbacher, and Eduard Kruger.
