Meer info:
A collection of depictions of Jews in Church art, book illustrations, and caricatures, mostly from the Middle Ages and early modern period, arranged by topic: Ecclesia vs. Synagoga; stories from the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament; the Jewish rejection of Christianity; Jews in collaboration with Satan or the Antichrist; Jews in Christian legend, including the blood libel; Jewish usury; the \"Judensau\"; and historical events such as pogroms. While some (especially in the earlier period) are neutral, most are polemical and ridicule or demonize the Jews. Pictures of Old Testament events were made for their typological significance in foreshadowing the New Testament. In illustrations to the New Testament, Jews in medieval Jewish costume are shown mistreating Jesus. The introduction (pp. 13-24) discusses the artists' treatment of the various subjects.
