Once one of the most secret special units, and at the same time not a branch of arms in the land forces of the former National People's Army, the paratroopers of the GDR have aroused particular interest in East and West since the late 1960s. Rumors such as missions in NATO uniforms, advisory work in Angola, Nicaragua and elsewhere in the Third World grew around the troop. Their presence and skills threatened the backward areas of NATO defense if there had been a war in Central Europe. After the NVA was dissolved, former commanders and relatives, along with soldiers of the former opponent, spoke up and described what was once considered to be top secret: operational principles and training for the struggle in the back of the 'class fiend'. In addition, the history, everyday service, special uniforms, equipment and equipment are described in detail. One of the responsible commanders reports on the GDR government's intention to use paratroopers against the Monday demonstrations in Leipzig. It shows why the operation did not take place and how the troops reacted to an operation against their own population. The book preserves a deep block in the structures of the National People's Army, shown on an exclusive unit. The authors make a first courageous contribution to the historical examination of the armed organs of the former workers 'and farmers' state. They portray the troops as they were, with their performance potential, but also with their weaknesses. This is the first time that a comprehensive contribution has been made to the youngest duet military history in the East and West tensions.
