C.W. Leadbeater was a member of the Theosophical Society and a close confidant of H.P. Blavatsky, about whom Aleister Crowley wrote in his study on the three schools of magic. In this crisis, the yellow adepts sent a messenger to the Western world, H.P. Blavatsky, with a specific mission to destroy the crude schools of Christianity on one hand, and to eradicate materialism from physical science on the other. Blavatsky's disciples and successors, Charles W. Leadbeater and Annie Besant, spent considerable time at the Adyar-based Theosophical Society (Theosophical Society in Adyar), aiming to establish Madras as a center of the Western society.
