In this book Dr. Gottschalk attempts to reconstruct the thought of Heraclides, a follower of Plato and older contemporary of Aristotle. After an introductory chapter on Heraclides' life and writings, five chapters deal with separate groups of fragments: the first offers a reconstruction of the dialogue, the only on of which enough fragments remain to make this possible; the rest deal with his corpuscular theory of matter, the astronomical fragments, ethical and religious fragments (including his contribution to the legend of Pythagoras), and historical and literary studies.
