- 3 Minute film about the creation of the sculpture 'Habakuk' : (Hommage to Max Ernst) by EWerdt Hilgemann (1938-). The sculpture Habakuk (Hommage to Max Ernst) by Ewerdt Hilgemann is a striking example of his signature "implosion" technique, in which he removes the air from geometric shapes made of stainless steel, causing them to deform according to natural laws. This 6.5-meter-high sculpture consists of three stacked cubes that, after the implosion, take on a dynamic, organic form. The sharp angles and curves are reminiscent of a birds head, directly referencing the work of the surrealist artist Max Ernst. Hilgemanns New York Project, titled Moments in a Stream, took place in the summer of 2014 on Park Avenue. Seven of his implosion sculptures were exhibited between 52nd and 67th Street, including Habakuk. These works, ranging in height from 2.5 to 6 meters, were created specifically for this location and reflect the tension between geometric perfection and the unpredictable forces of nature. Habakuk was later also exhibited in Chicago and Los Angeles, where it was prominently placed on the Avenue of the Stars in Century City. The sculpture remains a powerful symbol of the interplay between human creation and natural influence.
