Professor Desai's book 'Khajuraho' is a comprehensive illustrated introduction to the history, architecture, and sculpture of the Khajuraho temples. It is another volume in the 'Monumental Legacy' series about India's architectural heritage published by Oxford University Press.**
The book challenges the popular misconception that the temples are primarily defined by their erotic carvings, arguing that these images represent less than a tenth of the total sculpture. Her book places the construction of the temples within the historical context of the Chandella rulers, who oversaw their creation between the 10th and 12th centuries.
