As a senior manager with Cockburn who worked his way up from the ground level with the firm, his experiences and insight are unique to modern authorship on Port wines. His personal experience with many historical and now hardly available vintages, vintage notes, shippers and tasting notes, is a time capsule of information. His disclosures into Port wine production, such as how Cockburn experimented with racking wines prior to bottling, is insight that I doubt one can find in any other book on Port wines. Highly recommended and sure to be eminently enjoyable by anyone who enjoys Port, history, or the intellectual development/history of this great wine in general. |
