De Luxe Edition with original decorative slip case. 182 pp. 17,75 x 20,25 x 2 cm. 638 gr. With seven very striking full colour plates by Byam Shaw as well as frontispiece. This beautifully illustrated edition of this wonderful anthology of tragic and erotic poetry written by Nicolson (1865-1904), who created a scandal when these were first published in 1901 when she tried to pass them off as translated from classic erotic Indian poets. Byam Shaw (1872-1919), was considered one of the most important pre-Raphaelite painters, and the Garden of Kama as his best illustrated work. Lyrics including the Garden Of Kama, arranged in verse by Laurence Hope. This book looks like a valentine with romantic color plates throughout book, "You will be mine; those lightly dancing feet, Falling as softly on the careless street as the wind-loosened petals of a flower, Will bring you here, at the Appointed Hour." from "The Temple Dancing Girl". A wonderful gift, for a loved one or for your inner self. The slipcase is rather tired and the front of the slipcase is separated. The book is exceptional without inscription or tears and in fine condition. Booknumber: 12505 |
