| Meer info | In 1906-7, the English photographer Frederick H. Evans travelled through France on a bicycle, taking photographs of French chateaux and the surrounding countryside. Published here for the first time, together with a series of essays by Marcus Binney, this book offers a nostalgic view of 20 historic chateaux, ranging from the immaculate to the ruined, as they stood just after the turn of the century, and also reflects the massive changes of France's turbulent history. Photographer Frederick H. Evans (1853-1943) worked extensively and almost anonymously for the British 'Country Life' magazine during the early years of the 20th century. His photgraphs of English parish churches and French chateaux are one of the great treasure of the 'Country Life' picture library.
