Bound in quarter leather with gilt tooled spine and lettering, and percaline boards. Front board with gilt tooled ‘Lycee de Toulon’. Condition: Good-, rubbed binding and worn corners. I think the boards have been colored at a later time. Interior good with some with minor foxing. Prize inscription on verso of front free end paper from Lycee de Toulon. Complete with all figures and maps. Illustrated work by Louis Figuier (1819-1894), a French scientist. First edition in French of the renowned scientific essay dealing with the earth and the oceans.
