His dissidence against the system and his critical view of the institutionalization of art, his status as a state employee, his bohemian lifestyle, his self-imposed exile after the 1980 coup and the deficient art historiography in Turkey, overlay his important artistic work. His work has an international resonance and shows progressive practices of the time - at the same time a keen sense of place. |
