| Meer info | The common image of the preacher Milicius de Chremsir (d. 1374), the "Father of the Bohemian Reformation", is very much influenced by the process of nation-building in nineteenth-century Central Europe. This study offers a different approach to Milicius and his oeuvre, placing him within the context of the extensive preaching movement that occurred in the Middle Ages. An analysis of his two sermon collections Abortivus and Gratiae Dei reveals that Milicius was very concerned about contemporary society and church. Themes as preaching, hierarchy, papacy, power, poverty and saints he saw in the light of the corruption and the imminent threat of evil in his day. |
