Western Desert art describes a school of painters from Central Australia and adjacent regions who are socially, and in a broad sense culturally, part of Western Desert society. They paint their inherited Tjukurrpa in acrylics on canvas or board using variants of the visual language based on the traditional iconography of the Western Desert peoples devised by the Papunya Tula artists during the 1970s. |
