| Meer info | Peter Gaunt's 'Cromwellian Gazeteer' is an extremely useful listing of Civil War sites in the UK and Republic of Ireland, complete with map references and a quick summary of the significance of the site. Particularly valuable features include a Cromwell 'itinerary' and plans showing his movements during the wars. It also has quite a number of black and white photos of points of interest. There have been several volumes of this type on the market - but this is one of the best if not the best. Interestingly it also boasts a brief foreword by CV Wedgwood - one of the great names in Civil War history in the twentieth century. The work has now run to several editions - the one I have dates to 1987 and is a very well produced hard back, but remains very relevant and well used. |
