| Meer info | In this thesis an empirical study is presented into the phonological development in the language production of Dutch children. In a cross-sectional study, the development of the system of phonological contrasts is outlined, using the Dutch phonological method of analysis FAN, as well as the development in the occurrence of phonological simplification processes. For the study of the development of the contrastive system the development of consonants and vowels is treated separately, and a distinction is also made for syllable position. The observed developmental orders supports the model for the development of phonological contrasts proposed in this thesis. This mode is based on the non-linear phonological theory of Feature Geometry, which deals with the hierarchical relations of contrastive features. From this model and the acquisition data a classificatory model is proposed for the determination of deviancy of delay in the case of phonological impairment, and as a way of measuring the extent of developmental delay. The importance of the combination of both types of analysis, that is constrastive analysis and process analysis, in clinical practice is emphasized. |
