Rabbi Abraham Saba of Zamora was a preacher, cabbalist, and biblical exegete. He attempted to settle in Portugal, suffered the persecutions instigated by the Crown with his coreligionists and was finally expelled to North Africa. His literary works and thought are put in the proper cultural context and are analyzed against the background of historical reality. Abraham Gross, Ph.D. (1982) in Medieval Jewish History, Harvard University, is a Senior-Lecturer at Ben-Gurion University. He has published extensively on the culture of Iberian Jewry including Rabbi Joseph Hayyun: Exegete and Leader of the Lisbon Jewish Community (1993). |
