The Farrars complete the work begun in Eight Sabbats for Witches and, as in the first book, they have the co-operation of the distinguished authority Doreen Valiente, who herself helped Gardner compile the definitive version of his seminal work. They explain what Gardner's text actually was, how he used it and as far as possible what his sources were. The Witches' Way gives in full the first, second and third degree initiation rites, the consecration rites, and the many non-ritual passages of the 'Book of Shadows', with detailed notes and comments. The authors also give several interesting rituals of their own. The rest of the book explains what the Craft is all about 'the reasons behind the reasons'. It covers every- thing from the rationale of witch- craft to reincarnation; from ethics to sex; from symbolism to spells; from astral projection to psychic healing; from clairvoyance to witchcraft's place in today's world. With an appendix by Doreen Valiente on her research into the hitherto shadowy figure of Dorothy Clutterbuck, the witch who initiated Gardner, this book is an original and invaluable contribution to Craft history and practice.
