| Meer info | - or my biographies of Franco Corelli, Jacques Brel and Hariclea Darclée, the first Tosca (in progress), I wish to use this space to introduce the IVC 50th Anniversary Jubilee book, which I hope will be of interest to past, present and future singers, to people in the field and to music lovers around the world. This volume reflects my own amazement at the stunning parade of stars-to-be whose careers were launched when they won their IVC prize. For 70 percent of the earliest singers included in here, no information has been available; now this publication has given their artistry back to the world of song. The singers' biographies open with quotes from contemporary press reports, some of which make, with the wisdom of hindsight, for very funny reading. There are also a number of beautiful photos from many of the sin gers' earliest days. And the book includes a unique CD with neverbefore-released IVC Gala Concert recordings from the 401Dutch Divas archives that bring the IVC legend to life. This ongoing project was not the result of a commission. Rather, it sprang from my own fascination with all the treasures I discovered in the process of researching the past. Once these were merged with the IVC archives, the book was born from the labor of love. It documents the complete IVC winners' history in 98 biographies and 49 quotes. The introduction and postlude provide context to the event and the CD, yet this is not the big, detailed book on the organization, the jury and so on. This is the book of and for the winners, independently written according to journalistic criteria.
