Then, in the 1840s, new chromolithographic printing techniques were developed which made it possible to convey the glorious colours of the originals by superimposing different tints on one another; and with these technical improvements came a fresh interest in illumination. 'The illuminated Books of the Middle Ages' is among the finest of the nineteenth-century books printed by the new process. (info stofomslag) Henry Noel Humphreys (1810–1879) was a British illustrator, naturalist, entomologist, and numismatist. Humphreys was born on 4 January 1810 in Birmingham, the son of James Humphreys, and was educated at King Edward's School there. He studied medieval manuscripts in Italy as a young man, and became an accomplished scholar in numerous subjects.
