These years saw the domination of Babylonia and parts of Western Iran by the Kassites, the continuing arrival in Iran of Indo-European tribes that included the Medes and the Persians, and the establishment of the Late Assyrian and Neo-Babylonian empires.\" \"Relations between Mesopotamia and Iran during this period were the subject of a seminar at the British Museum in July 1993, held in memory of Vladimir G. Lukonin and sponsored by Raymond and Beverly Sakler. Four distinguished scholars spoke at that seminar, the proceedings of which are published in this volume. Agnes Spyket (formerly of the Musee de Louvre) spoke on Kassite and Middle Elamite sculpture. Professor Dr. Peter Calmeyer of the Deutsches Archaologisches Institute, Berlin, discussed Middle Babylonian art and contemporary Iran. Professor Dr. Louis Vanden Berghe (now sadly deceased) drew on his vast experience of Iranian archaeology to describe excavations in Luristan and relations with Mesopotamia.
