The SMAK will be the first museum where Artur Barrio has created a temporary installation so closely related to the museum, and parallel to the work of Joseph Beuys. Following this, Artur Barrio will visit several other European museums with a substantial Beuys collection where he will be able to continue his 'imaginary dialogue'. // The work of the Brazilian artist Artur Barrio (b. 1945, Portugal) consists mainly of 'situations' or temporary synaesthetic installations made of perishable, fragile and organic materials such as coffee, bread, urine, charcoal, wine, cloth, texts and so on. The ephemeral character of Barrio's installations compels the artist to seek alternative documentary techniques: photo, film, the artist's book, etc. In this respect, as well as in his approach to material and what is known as the 'didactic' mission, there are similarities in his work, in content and form, to that of Joseph Beuys (b. 1921 Krefeld - d. 1986 Dusseldorf). The 'Barrio - Beuys' exhibition presents the work of these two artists for the first time in an 'imaginary dialogue'. Following this, Artur Barrio will visit several other European museums with a substantial Beuys collection where he will be able to continue his 'imaginary dialogue'. n nHet werk van de Braziliaanse kunstenaar Artur Barrio (? 1945, Portugal) bestaat hoofdzakelijk uit 'situaties' of tijdelijke synesthetische installaties gebruik makend van vergankelijke, fragiele en organische materialen als er zijn koffie, brood, urine, houtskool, wijn, stof, tekst en dies meer. Het efemere karakter van Barrio's installaties verplichten de kunstenaar te zoeken naar alternatieve documentatietechnieken: foto, film, kunstenaarsboek,... In dit aspect en tevens in zijn omgang met materiaal en wat men de 'didactische' missie kan noemen zijn inhoudelijke en vormelijke affiniteiten vast te stellen met het werk van Joseph Beuys (?1921 Krefeld - ?1986 D?sseldorf). De tentoonstelling 'Barrio - Beuys' brengt voor het eerst het werk van deze beide kunstenaars in een 'imaginaire dialoog'. Het S.M.A.K. wordt een eerste museum waar Artur Barrio een op het museum geaxeerde tijdelijke installatie realiseert parallel met het werk van Joseph Beuys. Artur Barrio reist aansluitend verder naar een aantal andere Europese musea met een substanti?le Beuys verzameling waar hij zijn 'imaginair gesprek' kan verder zetten. |
