Published in Chungking, where Van Gulik was stationed from 1944 as First Secretary at the Dutch Embassy. Because of the war with Japan the Chinese Government had taken refuge in Chungking in 1944, as did many organisations, scientists and people of cultural importance - it became an important cultural breeding place.Frontwrapper creased.
