| Meer info | = Rare early Schoolprize binding of special interest as the town of Megen (now in North Brabant province in the Netherlands) had a special status at the time. It was part of the Southern Netherlands and was reigned by the Spanish Habsburg Monarchy until 1714 and was as such part of the Habsburg Empire. The Franciscan Latin school had a sort of autonomous status (for this.reason Latin schools of the Southern Netherlands (including Megen) are not included in the work of Spoelder on Dutch prize-bindings). Catalogue De prijs is het bewijs. Vier eeuwen prijsboeken (Leuven, 1991) lists only one schoolprize of Megen, dated 1623 and in an undecorated binding. Prize-bindings executed in calf were more common for the Souther Netherlands (including Belgium); vellum was used more typically in the Northern Netherlands. Binding worn along edges; spine worn with almost all gilt worn away and lacking portions of leather; pastedowns loose; ties lacking. |
