Melchers was a pupil of Jan Toorop, who was also influenced by Japonism. One of a thousand copies of the regular edition on wove paper, from an edition of 1070 copies in all. Contains 16 full-color illustrations of Belgian-Dutch scenes by Franz Melchers to accompany Braun's cycle of poems about the changing seasons. Contents shaken and disbound from marbled wrappers (binding threads broken); plates generally clean but for very mild toning and light creasing to very outer margins and corners. Frontwrapper heavily damaged and only the central part preserved with large portions torn from all margins. |
