Meer info = Hazeu: "First publication by Escher, woodcut in student almanac Delft, 1919". Very collectible. The whereabouts of the original woodblock are unknown, therefore this is the only available print of Escher's first ever published artwork! Illustration called "Groentyd" (or: Groentijd; [English: Hazing]), which illustrated the yearly almanac of the Delftsch Studenten Corps for 1917, which was printed in 1918 by J. Waltman Jr. in Delft. It is the earliest publication by M.C. Escher, which he made in the time he was himself a student and member of the Delft Student Corps. Escher was only 18 or 19 years old at the time of creation. It is cut from the actual almanac, as is visible on the verso where the fragmentary text of the verso almanac page is printed. The almanac itself is not included.Escher's biographer Wim Hazeu writes a small passage about this print, which translates about as follows: "On the hazing-period ['groentijd'] Mauk [Maurits Escher] made a linocut, which was printed in the student almanac of the Delft Student Corps, his very first publication" and with a reproduction of the image in the biography on page 209, with the caption "First publication by Escher, woodcut in student almanac Delft, 1917"The terms "linocut" and "woodcut" and the years 1917 and 1918 are both used, the print may actually have been designed in 1917, but this almanac (the very first publication of the print) was printed in 1918.
