| Meer info | = Personal and authentic World War II memorial album by the Dutch Mr. M. Borst, living at the time in 1944 at Tullekensmolenweg 62 in Beekbergen (according to a ‘lost and found’ advertisement found in a newspaper (via Delpher) dated April 29, 1944). During Operation Market Garden, evacuees from Arnhem and the immediate vicinity were taken care of in his home. With the drawings the artist captures this special period and gives a close insight into the experience and the togetherness that begins in the house with evacuees under the constraints of war. Among other things, the following are captured in image: pastimes such as chess-playing, lighting problems and the ingenious solutions to bring light, the manufacture of homemade candles, special war finds such as a "parachute lamp, English", the "gas mask bag, really English!". A final leaf apparently was taken from the album. |
