The first English edition was published in 1715 and based on the 1715 Latin edition. Our copy is the second English edition in a new translation, based on the 1722 Latin edition. In 1701, at the age of thirty-three, Boerhaave was appointed lecturer in medicine at the University of Leyden. Seven years later his lectures were published and considered to be the first textbook of physiology and a medical classic. |
