| Meer info | = Nice collection of the first 38 editions of the world's most widely read book of Dutch origin, The diary of Anne Frank. The first edition was printed in June 1947 in 3036 copies. Added is a copy of Bart Herbert - Die Vergeltung. Packende Geschichten von aufrechten und beherzten Männern (1st ed., 1941, original boards with dustjacket), which was printed by the Amsterdam publishing house De Arbeiderspers. Due to paper shortage at the time of printing of Het achterhuis in 1947 art of the first editions were strengthened on the inside of the backstrip with use of the dustjackets of remainders of this work. That is also the case with the first edition in this lot, indicating it was an early printing of the run. - Also added is a copy of Anne Frank - Verhalen rondom het achterhuis (1960, 8 facsimile illustrations from the manuscript, original boards with dustjacket). Anne Frank (1929-1945) began her diary on her 13th birthday, 12 June 1942 during the nazi-occupation of The Netherlands, while she was hiding underground in Amsterdam. The diary was found in the hiding place "Het Achterhuis" by Miep Gies after Anne, her family and many other other Jews had been transported to the nazi-concentraton camp. Miep Gies was one of the helpers during the family's hiding in the secret annexe "the Achterhuis". She returned the diary to Anne's father Otto Frank, who was the only survivor of the hiding group. Otto found a publisher for the diary and it remains a classic or world literature today. Anne died in March 1945 in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. - Edition 1 (1947) to 4 (1948) without dustjacket - Edition 5 (1949) and edition 6 (1950) rare and very good. Small edition of approximately 1500 copies each.- Edition 7 (1955) to edition 30 (1960) With accompanying dust jacket with number of thousands. In the booklets occasionally a signature or shop sticker from that time.The 8th and 25th without dust jacket. The 8th edition is very rare because it had a circulation of about 1000 copies. - Edition 31 (1961) to edition 38 (1966) are softcovers. The 36th edition mentions the 37th edition on the inside but the 36th edition on the back. |
