| Meer info | = Knuttel 1776. Intensively restored copy, many leaves completely doubled. When Jacobus Arminius died in 1609, the central leadership of the Remonstrants passed to Rev. Johannes Uytenbogaert - his name was written in a different spelling as Wtenbogaert. He served first as a Reformed minister and also as an army chaplain and court chaplain. After 1609 the question became whether this new foreman had different ideas or wanted to pursue a different policy than his friend Arminius. In 1610 Uytenbogaert was closely involved in the drafting and presentation of the Remonstrance to the States of Holland. It warmly agreed that it included the phrases advocating tolerance in religious matters: diversity of religious views should be normal. Together with Arminius, 'the father of the Remonstrants', Uytenbogaert is the designer of Remonstrantism. "Als predikant heeft Smoutius een zeer bewogen leven gehad. Reeds te Rotterdam [hij was secretaris van Rotterdam van 1606 tot 1625] wierp hij zich met hartstocht in de ontstane godsdiensttwisten."
