All volumes inscribed by a Dutch grandmother to her grandchildren: "Van grootmoeder voor hare lieve kleinkindjes in 1900. Kleef." (vol.2). Complete set in early editions of this masterful children's stories with humourous drawings by the author of Max and Moritz. Partly published before in Fliegende Blätter and Münchener Bilderbogen, but these stories were - although highly succesful in German and in other languages - never translated into Dutch. Here a Dutch grandmother has translated all 2-line verses which accompany the illustrations by Wilhelm Busch in Dutch. She has provided this translation with a great sense of literary feeling - on rhyme - and humour. Contains several Struwwelpeter-stories (cf. Rühle, Böse Kinder). Vol.1 hinges weak; vol.2 tear in title-page and first text-leaf loose and frayed; several tears; vol.3 with tape-ghosts along spine and part of spine pasted over with yellow cloth; hinges weak/ broken (some leaves loose). |
